I’ve always been fascinated by football rosters, particularly college and the NFL - where players come from, what high schools/colleges they played for, and which regions/states produce the most talent. Even as NIL and the transfer portal has flattened college football, there’s still an undeniable regional flavor when you turn on a game on Saturday. What makes the NFL special is hearing all the different colleges guys played for across all teams. I always love watching Sunday Night Football and hearing the players share their college or high school while they list their hometown underneath.
We built a web app to track where players come from for every FBS and FCS roster, as well as what portion of the roster comes from high school recruiting versus the transfer portal. This will expand over time to cover more data and branch into NFL rosters. For now, check it out below and let me know your feedback:
